How NOT to become an Independent Filmmaker

With the state of technology today there is no reason that anyone can’t become an independent filmmaker. The advent of social media and tube sites you can get exposure by the MILLIONS. Good content far surpasses video quality.

Don’t get me wrong, video quality is important, but not as important as it once was. Quality of content and how many “followers” you can create make all the difference in the world.

It’s the technological revolution kids…fire up your webcams and shoot. No matter what camera you’re shooting with, just get content and share it.

Yes quality video content is great. Good composition, great color correction, precise cuts…blah, blah, blah. I just watched a show that focused on an 18 year old girl that had nothing but a webcam and her quirky personality and is making 6 figures plus a year.

I know, we’re filmmakers. We have a desire to stay true to our art. A desire to make a product that’s worthy of the silver screen. I’m going to be honest with all of you, something that most other folks will never be. 90% of you aren’t going to make it making main stream films. I’m being grateful with that percentage. How messed up am I publishing an article that tells you that you’re going to fail?

I’ll tell you how messed up I am. I’m the guy that’s going to help you make a couple bucks on your way to your dream.

First off. Never stop shooting. Film everyday. I don’t care if you just turn on the built in camera on your laptop or breaking out your DVX100. Just shoot. Film everything that goes on around you. Learn the settings of your camera. White balance setting changes can make for a scene you’d never imagine.

PUBLISH, PUBLISH, PUBLISH. They used to say in the restaurant business it was all about location. Independent film is all about how many places you can get your product out there in this virtual world. You’re going to get bad comments on all those sites….Forget about it…just upload your stuff to another site and move on. Remember FIDO

FIDO….F**K It Distribute Online
